Arutha, stems from the Sanskrit word for “meaning”, which is shared across Sinhala (අරුත, Arutha) and Tamil (அர்த்தம், Arttam).
Arutha is dedicated to making economics meaningful. Through research and economic civic education we break down complex issues so everyone can understand and participate in shaping their economic future.

Our work involves investigating Sri Lanka’s tax system in depth. We evaluate the tax system through a political economic lens, examining how both government and non-state actors influence reform, and how internal bureaucratic dynamics shape outcomes.
