Is Sri Lanka facing a development setback?

Once regarded as a regional success story in human development, even if not in

sustained economic growth, Sri Lanka has witnessed many of its hard-earned

development gains erode in the wake of the recent economic crisis. Poverty has doubled,

real wages have declined, child malnutrition and mortality have shown worrying

upward trends, and nearly half of the population is unable to afford a healthy diet.

Collectively, these challenges represent a significant development setback, with

profound implications for social well-being, human capital, and the country's long-term

economic recovery.
