Economic Civic Education: Phase II

Co-creating an ‘Economics for Everyone’ curriculum

As part of Arutha’s core mission of advancing economic knowledge and literacy among Sri Lankans, Arutha has been engaging closely with the Tea Leaf Trust to deliver economic civic education to TLT’s students, teachers and administrators.

As part of this initiative, Arutha co-created an economic civic education curriculum with TLT to increase the economic knowledge and literacy of TLT students. This phase commenced in August 2025.  Arutha ran the ‘Economics for Everyone’ fellowship programme with 5 trainee teachers (former students) appointed by TLT to design the economic civic education curriculum. With the support of Arutha, the fellows completed the development of a fully-fledged ‘Economics for Everyone’ curriculum consisting of a teaching guide and lesson plans by December 2025.

Arutha noted several challenges in the conduct of the fellowship programme that would have impacted the roll-out of the new curriculum. TLT, having noted similar challenges, requested Arutha’s support in conducting teacher training workshops to prepare TLT teachers to teach the new curriculum in the second quarter of the new academic year in 2026.
